The Agent On File Registered agent · Compliance calendar · Mail on file

The no-gap switch: new agent on file before the old one lets go.

Changing your registered agent is a relay. Run it in the wrong order and there is a window — hours or weeks, depending on the state — in which your entity has no agent at all, and everything the state or a process server sends in that window goes nowhere you will ever see.

State fees pass through at cost. States not listed have their change fee confirmed in writing when the switch is prepared — our dataset publishes a fee only when it has been verified against the state’s schedule. Virginia’s row carries its note because Virginia publishes no single change fee: the agent cannot be changed on the annual report and a separate filing is required — the pointer is the honest state there. Per-state detail lives on each state folio.

When to switch

The clean window is right after your annual obligation is satisfied for the cycle — the new agent starts with a quiet calendar. The worst window is inside a live deadline or a live lawsuit. If you are mid-anything, tell us first; the protocol absorbs it, but it has to know.
